Introducing Atomic IBD Uncut
A new series of short-form videos discussing all things inflammatory bowel disease
Atomic IBD Uncut - Episode One
I’m trying something new here. A series of short videos all shot in one take and unedited, released daily onto YouTube.
The clinical and research landscape in IBD is evolving rapidly. Keeping up with all the new information is an almost impossible task, even for those of us working in the space full-time. And so I want to explore a new format for communicating key insights, clearly and concisely.
In these videos I will be covering a wide range of topics related to IBD, including:
IBD therapies old and new
The number of approved treatments we have available for IBD in 2024 is astonishing. It is fantastic to have this choice for our IBD patients in the clinic.
assessing the RCT and real-world data
sequencing strategies and combination therapies
how to adopt into clinical practice wherever you are in the world
The IBD treatment pipeline is in rude health, with huge investment from Big Pharma and the Biotech industry. This includes new biologics and small molecules of course, but also combinations of advanced therapies, microbiota therapies and dietary treatments.
Evolving IBD management
Artificial Intelligence for IBD
Digital telemonitoring and wearable devices
Implementation of novel biomarkers to predict IBD outcomes
Precision health for IBD patients to optimise for a normal quality of life and absence of disability
Holistic IBD care
There is so much to cover here.
The short-form video content will allow me to drop into a variety of topics - to discuss evidence based strategies, review gaps in the available data, and to offer strategies to discuss in the clinic and implement at home.
Holistic IBD care includes topics as diverse as
diet
sleep
stress
exercise
fatigue
anxiety and depression
family planning and intimacy
Prediction, prevention and cure(s)
I’ll discuss the roadmap towards prevention of IBD and the rapid progress being made in this space. It is quite astonishing really.
But I need your help
Please provide feedback on how these videos can be useful.
what topics would you like me to cover
which platform(s) do the videos need to be on
how can I improve the content and the format
This is designed in part as a challenge for me - I am trying something new here and pushing right up to the edge of my comfort zone.
But it is primarily an exercise to service our global IBD community.
This is a really great series idea and I look forward to watching more of them! I wondered if you could do something brief on the gut-brain axis in relation to the holistic care section? I have struggled to find informative videos about the gut-brain axis (and it's bidirectional nature) specifically relating to IBD, which can be understood by the general public!
As a parent of a young person newly diagnosed with UC, I have struggled to find help with the holistic side of care. For example, the internet if full of advice on supplements, probiotics, diet etc but the IBD clinic offers nothing other than drugs. It's refreshing that you are giving this some attention and thank you.
